“Spartans! Ready your breakfast and eat hearty… For tonight, we dine in hell!” – King Leonidas
What they eat is actually simpler and more common than you thought...
Have you ever heard about the Battle of Thermopylae, read about the Spartans, or watched the movie 300?
This epic historical account revolves around the legendary 300 Spartan warriors who almost won the battle against more than 300,000 Persian soldiers.
How the heck did they do it???
Well, not only through their precise tactics, but also because of their efficient training and NUTRITIOUS DIET.
Just as how much they give importance to their military exercises above everything else, so much so that they also treat food crucially as the same.
Spartans stay fit and constantly ready for battle not only because of their vigorous daily activities, but also because of the NATURAL FOODS that are always available on their table.
Albeit the diet was typically very basic, it gave them more than enough nutrition they needed to sustain and power them up especially at times of war and severe physical exertion.
Unlike the majority of foodstuff that we consume today, the Spartan diet encompasses eating ORGANIC FOODS i.e. foods that are UNPROCESSED. They are either obtained from their own farms or are acquired from herding and hunting.
Here are some of the most common examples of the Spartan staple food:
· Chicken and Turkey
· Fresh fruits and vegetables
· Milk, Cream, and cheese form sheep and goats
· Olives, figs, and olive oil
· Black broth made up of boiled pork, salt, vinegar, and blood
· Occasional – wine and bread made of traditional barley
Basically, the list is outright simple.
TIP: If you want to follow their diet, you have to EAT ONLY WHEN YOU ARE HUNGRY & ONLY UNTIL YOU GET ENOUGH – NOT UNTIL YOU GET “STUFFED.”
Although they have wine during important occasions, most of the time, warriors STAY AWAY FROM DESSERTS & UNHEALTHY FOODS to keep their body lean and vibrant – this means that you also have to!
Undeniably, this is it and not much more about their diet; nothing mysterious and nothing fancy.
Just keep in mind that the Spartans are strong because they simply ate well –fresh food and fresh water – and they also trained well.
Ergo, if you want to have a physique like theirs, you now know that you are not that far from the answers.
